All statistical methods are based on random sampling. There are 4 functions used to characterize the behavior of random variables:

  1. the probability density function,
  2. the cumulative distribution function,
  3. the reliability function, and
  4. the hazard function.

If any one of the functions are known, the others can be derived. This module describes these functions as well as the concept of a random sample in detail.   Please proceed through the modules to the left by clicking on each subject.   After you have completed all subjects, there is an optional quiz for reviewing the material.
